You want to watch Given.
But then you look it up and discover there are five separate releases — a TV anime, multiple films, something called an OAD — and suddenly it’s not clear where to begin.
This guide will fix that.
Here is everything you need to know to watch Given in the right order, without confusion.
The Complete Given Series — At a Glance
| Title | Type | Year |
|---|---|---|
| Given (TV Anime) | 11 episodes | 2019 |
| Given: The Movie | Film | 2020 |
| Given: The Other Side (OAD) | Short episode | 2021 |
| Given: Hiragi Mix | Film | 2024 |
| Given: To the Sea | Film | 2024 |
Five releases in total. Watch them in this order and the emotional build-up lands exactly as intended.
The Watch Order
① TV Anime — 11 Episodes
Start here. No exceptions.
This is where everything begins — Mafuyu and Ritsuka’s first meeting, the formation of the band, and the slow reveal of what Mafuyu has been carrying.
Skipping this and jumping to the films is like walking into the middle of a conversation. The feelings won’t have anywhere to come from.
Eleven episodes. Watch all of them before moving on.

② Given: The Movie (2020)
The direct continuation of the TV anime.
But the focus shifts.
While the anime centred on Mafuyu and Ritsuka, the film turns its attention to the older members of the band — Haruki and Akihiko — and a more complicated, more adult kind of love story.
“We like each other. But that doesn’t mean this is easy.”
If the TV anime moved you, this film will move you differently. It asks harder questions about what love actually requires of people.
③ Given: The Other Side — OAD
A short companion episode to the 2020 film.
While the film focused on Haruki and Akihiko, this OAD fills in what was happening with Mafuyu and Ritsuka during the same period.
“Wait — what was going on with them the whole time?”
This answers that. It’s brief, but it completes the picture. Watch it immediately after the film.
④ Given: Hiragi Mix (2024)
Here the perspective shifts again.
This film centres on Hiiragi Kashima and Shizusumi Yagi — Mafuyu’s childhood friends, and two people carrying their own complicated history with Yuki.
If the earlier entries made you wonder about the people in Mafuyu’s past — about what Yuki meant to the people who loved him — this film goes there.
Quietly devastating in the best way.

⑤ Given: To the Sea (2024)
The conclusion of the series.
Everything the story has been building toward — the unfinished song, the feelings that were never delivered, the question of what it means to move forward while still holding the past — arrives here.
Many people say this is the one that made them cry the most.
Prepare accordingly.

Which Part of the Manga Does Each Release Cover?
If you finish the anime and want to continue with the original manga:
| Release | Manga volumes |
|---|---|
| TV Anime | Volumes 1–3 |
| The Movie (2020) | Volumes 4–5 |
| Hiragi Mix + To the Sea | Volumes 6–9 (complete) |
The manga ran for 9 volumes and is now complete — making it easy to pick up wherever the anime leaves off.

A Note on Tone — What Changes as the Series Goes On
One thing worth knowing before you start:
The TV anime and the later films feel different from each other.
The anime has a warmth to it — the energy of a band coming together, young people figuring out their feelings for the first time, the particular excitement of a first live performance.
The films are quieter. Heavier. They ask more of the characters and of you.
This isn’t a flaw. It’s the series maturing alongside its characters.
But it’s worth knowing so you’re not caught off guard when the tone shifts after episode 11.
Start With Episode One
The order is simple:
TV Anime → The Movie → The Other Side → Hiragi Mix → To the Sea
Follow it, and by the time the final film ends, everything that has been building — every small moment, every feeling that went unspoken — will have somewhere to land.
Start with episode one.
The rest will take care of itself.
