On April 23, 2026, Kodansha confirmed that Glasses with a Chance of Delinquent — the shoujo manga by Naruki serialized in Bessatsu Friend — is getting a TV anime adaptation. Official accounts followed immediately, with a website, X, Instagram, and TikTok all launching the same day.
It’s a milestone that’s been a while coming. The manga didn’t start out planned as a long-running series — it began as a short, limited serialization, and only returned for regular publication in 2022 after volume 2 sold well enough to earn an unusual reprint. Since then it’s built a steady, devoted readership, currently sitting at 11 volumes and over a million copies sold.
What the Story’s About
Hiro Momose has a personal aversion to delinquents, and Dan Ichikura — the quiet, glasses-wearing classmate she barely notices — turns out to be a former one, with a serious fighting reputation from his middle school days. What follows is less about the reputation and more about what’s underneath it: a boy whose loyalty to the people he cares about doesn’t bend, and a girl who slowly stops needing to be protected and starts protecting back.
What’s Been Released So Far
Alongside the announcement, a special teaser PV built from panels of the original manga began rolling out across the official accounts starting April 24. It doesn’t feature voiced dialogue yet, but it draws directly from key scenes in the source material, giving fans a first sense of how the story might translate to screen.
Creator Naruki also shared a commemorative illustration and comment marking the occasion — reportedly expressing a long-held wish, dating back to when they first set out to become a manga artist, to see their characters move and speak. That wish is now becoming real.
