Hello everyone! I’m Toki, an amigurumi creator.

This time, I’ve poured my heart and soul into creating… ta-da!
An amigurumi boy with a “Bankara” style, exuding the charm of old Japan!

Let me share the passionate details I put into this piece.

What exactly is “Bankara”? 🤔

If you heard “Bankara” and thought, “Huh, who’s that?” or “Baccarat? Like the casino?” — don’t worry, you’re not alone! (lol)

“Bankara” refers to a unique type of student that emerged in Japan about 100 years ago, during the Meiji and Taisho eras. These were the cool, somewhat stubborn and stoic “handsome men” (or so they imagined!) who turned their backs on the Western trends of the time. They deliberately maintained a simple, old-fashioned style.

Their trademarks included worn-out school uniforms, flowing capes, and clogs that clattered as they walked. While their appearance might have made some raise an eyebrow, their hearts were filled with a strong sense of justice and unwavering conviction. They were true individualists with a tough spirit, always forging their own path!

Toki’s Special Touches! 🔍

Now, in bringing this Bankara boy to life as an amigurumi, I particularly focused on these two points:

A “Hmm…” expression that hints at deep thought!

I imagined that boys of this era were likely a bit stubborn and complex, never compromising their beliefs. So, I intentionally gave this amigurumi boy a somewhat sophisticated, perhaps a thoughtful, maybe slightly stubborn ‘Hmph’ expression. I hope his inner passionate spirit shines through this look! Can you feel it…? (Nervous anticipation!)

Stylish, high-soled clogs that exude defiance!

Take a look at his feet! While shoes or sandals would have been fine, I deliberately chose high-soled clogs. This isn’t just a fashion statement! It’s meant to convey a sense of youthful bravado, a hint of showing off, and a “rebellious spirit” that bows to no one. If these clogs can communicate his true strength, his stubbornness, and his “I am who I am!” Bankara soul, then I’ll be absolutely thrilled!
Here’s a close-up of the clogs!
